IN MEMORY OF:
Denver Thomas Compton

Denver Thomas Compton, age 82 of Garfield, KY died Thursday, May 23, 2013 at his residence. He was born in High Plains, KY on November 3, 1930, the son of the late Willie Horace and Bertha Belle Gardner Compton. He was a retired technician for Brown & Williamson, a Korean War Army veteran, member of VFW Post 5831 and Custer Masonic Lodge and former deputy jailer. He was a member of Garfield Baptist Church where he was music director for many years. Tommy was a former Magistrate for Breckinridge County serving our community for 13 years. He served on the board of directors that established the Hardinsburg Ball Park. Tommy enjoyed playing the guitar, singing and got much pleasure in spending time with his grandchildren. He was a "true American" and was very interested in the happenings around Breckinridge County and across the United States.

He was preceded in death by 2 sons: Denver Curtis and Danny Thomas Compton

Vivian Harpe Heath

Vivian Harpe Heath, age 75 of Elizabethtown, KY died Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Horizon Bay ALF in Louisville, KY. She was born in Addison, KY on April 13, 1938, the daughter of the late David Elmer and Catherine Walker Harpe. Vivian retired from the State of Kentucky as a job placement coordinator, attended the Assembly of God Church, was a former member of Hardinsburg Baptist Church, Eastern Star and AGLOW. Vivian was very devout, spent much time praying and comforting others. She enjoyed reading, sewing, gardening, animals and was a volunteer for Hosparus and spent time at the hospital with families.

She is the widow of Robert T. Heath.

Funeral services will be held at Hardinsburg Baptist Church on Saturday, 5-25-2013 at 11 AM with Rev. Doug Miller officiating. Burial will be in the Cloverport Cemetery. Visitation at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Friday, 3:30 - 8 PM and Saturday after 8:30 AM.

Margaret Mary Turchin Sumego

Margaret Mary Turchin Sumego, age 87 of Leitchfield, KY died Thursday, May 16, 2013 at her residence. She was born in Edinboro, PA on June 2, 1925, the daughter of the late John and Mary Lagania Turchin. She was a retired seamstress for National Linen Company and a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church.

She enjoyed baking, cooking, sewing and crocheting. Mrs. Sumego volunteered at her church, helping with fish fries, funeral meals and the church picnic as well as a volunteer for the VFW weekly bingo.

Her husband, Stephan, passed away on April 16, 2013.

She is survived by 2 daughters: Pauline Baker of Leitchfield, KY and Josephine Hillin of Texas

2 sisters: Valerie "Tootsie" Alexander of Pennsylvania and Barbara Olevenick of Michigan

Frances Rae Compton, age 70 of Hardinsburg, Ky died Monday, 5-13-2013 at her residence. She was born in Sulphur, Louisiana on 2-12-1943. She retired from ACL as a cook and enjoyed knitting, crocheting, sewing and dancing. She loved her little furry companions: Blessed, Little Bit and Penny.

She was preceded in death by her father: Charles Ray Knuckles.

Roberta "Bobbie" Carol Shartzer, age 70 of Shepherdsville, KY died Sunday, May 12, 2013 at Audubon Hospital. She was born in Breckinridge County, KY on April 20, 1943, the daughter of the late Theodore and Cecile Roberts Dowell. She retired from the Breckinridge County Sheriff's Office as a dispatcher, was a former HUD Director, a member of New Hope Baptist Church and enjoyed cooking, reading, working crossword puzzles, but spent her happiest times with her grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her grandson - Michael Timberlake

She retired from Calvert Realty Company, was a member of New Clover Creek Baptist Church, Breckinridge County Homemakers and enjoyed cooking and sewing.

She was preceded in death by her husband: Carl Thomas Miller and her sister: Christine Martin.

He was a U S Marine veteran, a member of Franklin Crossroads Baptist Church and a former employee of Texas Gas Transmissions. Mike enjoyed working in his shop, hunting, fishing and NASCAR.

William L. Decker, Sr.

William L. Decker, Sr. age 89 of Hardinsburg, KY died Tuesday, May 7, 2013 at Hardinsburg Nursing and Rehab Center. He was born in Axtel, KY on April 14, 1924, the son of the late Daniel and Ada Pool Decker. Bill retired from Texas Gas Transmissions as a Control Specialist after 33 years of service. He was a World War II and Korean War Army veteran. Bill was a member of Goshen Baptist Church and participated in many church activities. He was an excellent softball player and loved playing and teaching the sport. He also enjoyed farming, reading and playing checkers, but he was most happy when preparing for and attending the annual Decker family re-union.

Bill was preceded in death by his grandson: John Douglas Decker and  his brothers and sisters: Ambers, Frank, Adam and Amy Decker, Alpha Ramsey, Daisy Powell, Alma Jeffries, Eve Combs and Beulah Boles

He is survived by his wife Nelle Stinnett Decker of Hardinsburg, KY who he married on July 24, 1949

Dorothy Bryant "Dot" Miller, age 89 of Hardinsburg, KY died Friday, May 3, 2013 at Hardinsburg Nursing and Rehab Center. She was born in Breckinridge County, KY on July 17, 1923, the daughter of the late Frank and Chloe Bryant Miller. Dot was a member of Hardinsburg United Methodist Church and retired from Harrington's Drug Store.

She was preceded in death by her brothers and sisters: Clyde, Edwin, Vernon and Leroy Miller
Lornell Kerr, Louise Fentress, Anna Dean Lane, Reva Miller and her infant sibling.

Dot was also preceded in death by her fiance and companion of over 70 years T. O. Frank on 1-11-2013.

She is survived by nieces and nephews

Funeral services will be held at Trent-Dowell Funeral Home on Monday, 5-6-2013 at 11 AM with Rev. Greg Shannon officiating. Burial will be in the Shady Grove Cemetery in Grayson County. Visitation will begin at 9:30 AM on Monday.

Harold Vincent Flood, age 86 of Hardinsburg, KY died Tuesday, 4-30-2013 at Breckinridge Memorial Hospital. He was born in Hardinsburg, KY on March 18, 1927, the son of the late Vincent and Pearl Jolly Flood. He was a WWII Army veteran, a member of St. Romuald Catholic Church and a farmer. Mr. Flood enjoyed hunting, fishing, reading, gardening and watching hummingbirds. He was the happiest when he was with his children and their families.

Harry Cone Broderick, Jr.

Harry Cone Broderick, Jr. age 90 of Irvington, KY died Sunday, 4-28-2013 at University Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was born on June 5, 1922 in Washington, DC the son of the late Harry Cone, Sr. and Elizabeth Halstead Broderick. He was a US Navy veteran, retiring after 30 years of service to our country, a member of Pleasant View Baptist Church, past member of Cheverly United Methodist Church, past member of the Maryland Rotary club and past president and founder of the Southern Maryland Cadillac - La-Salle Club. He was the former owner and operator of R A Donley Office Products in Cottage City, MD and very well thought of as a leader in his community. He enjoyed boating and water skiing on the Chesapeake Bay, playing golf and restoring antique cars. He was a compassionate man and a great father who was full of laughter, had a great sense of humor and very involved in his children's activities.

He was preceded in death by his wife and the mother of his children: Helen Katherine Broderick and two brothers: Kenneth and William Broderick

He loved spending time with his family, especially his 3 grandchildren

He was born in  PA on May 14, 1924, the son of the late Steve and Anna Wasko Sumego. He retired from The Marley Company and was a member of St. Anthony Catholic Church. Steve was a WWII Army veteran, member of the American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars. He and his wife spent much time doing charity work and assisting with activities at their church. He enjoyed gardening, hunting and fishing and was always eager to help those in need.

He is survived by his wife Margaret Mary Turchin Sumego of Leitchfield, KY
2 daughters: Pauline Baker of Leitchfield, KY and Susan Sumego of Pennsylvania
3 grandchildren: Lynn Polston, Stephen Parm and Eileen Bryner
5 great grandchildren

A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Anthony Catholic Church on Friday, 4-19-2013 at 11 AM with Fr. Tony Stevenson officiating. There will be no visitation. Memorial contributions are suggested to: St. Anthony Catholic Church or Veterans of Foreign Wars.

Daniel Joseph “D J” Ford, age 32 of Hardinsburg, KY died Saturday, April 13, 2013 at University Hospital. He was born in Louisville, KY on September 4, 1980. D J is a Sergeant with the United States Army and employed by Alcoa in Newburgh, IN. As a child, he attended St. Romuald Catholic Church and school and graduated from Frederick Fraize High School. He enjoyed motorcross racing, hunting, fishing and spending time with his sons and family. D J loved life and helping others and desired to continue that with the intent of being an organ donor.

Harry Hale, Jr. age 61 of Glen Dean, KY died Friday, 4-12-2013 at his residence. He was born in Hardinsburg, KY on May 10, 1951, the son of the late Harry, Sr and Laura Leigh Wheatley Hale. As a young man, he attended Goshen Baptist Church, was a self employed truck driver and enjoyed fishing, watching westerns, but more than anything he loved being with his family and friends.

Lowell Zane Macy, Sr.

Lowell Zane Macy, Sr. age 76 of Hardinsburg, KY died Thursday, 4-11-2013 at Norton Hospital in Louisville, KY. He was born in Hardinsburg, KY on March 16, 1937, the son of the late Alfred Owen and Lucy Rhoda LeGrand Macy. Lowell retired from The Farmers Bank, where he served on the Board of Directors and was a member of Hardinsburg United Methodist Church. He and a group of close friends were instrumental in starting the charitable organization Christmas Friends which helped many families during the holidays. Lowell enjoyed fishing, gardening, woodworking, collecting pocket knives and playing ROOK. He was an avid U of K basketball and San Francisco Giants baseball fan.

He was preceded in death by his brother A O Macy, Jr. and sister Anna Francis Clifton.

Lowell is survived by his wife Ann Smith Macy of Hardinsburg, KY who he married on September 30, 1956 in New Albany, IN

She was born in Breckinridge County, KY on July 30, 1938, the daughter of the late Blanford and Lucy Helen Armes Haynes. Mona was a former office manager for The Lang Company as well as a security guard. She enjoyed traveling, bowling and gardening.
