Hundreds of different fonts now exist as a result of new word processing and font creation programs. Unfortunately,
computer browsers and search engines have not kept up with all the new fonts. The result is that some fonts cannot be
read or will not display properly in some browsers and search engines. The font you select for a web site should be
both browser and search engine friendly for maximum benefits, as some browsers and engines read ultra-fancy fonts as a foreign
language they cannot understand.
The primary browsers as of early 2007 are Internet Explorer, AOL, Mozilla, Netscape Navigator, Firefox, Opera, Safari and
Web TV. Making matters even more complicated is that there are several versions of these browsers. Internet Explorer
is currently on Version 7, Netscape Navigator is on Version 9, etc. Our site visitor statistics from 2005 show that
20% of web surfers were using some version of Internet Explorer. 19% were using the AOL browser. The browsers
with the fastest growing popularity, however, as of early 2007, were Firefox and Netscape Navigator 9. The least popular
browser (only 3%) is Web TV (offered by MSN).
The gap between available fonts and what browsers and search engines can read makes web site font selection difficult.
A fancy or pretty new font that looks cute on a site might do you more harm than good if it is difficult or impossible to
be read by humans, browsers and search engines. Some search engines read fancy english fonts as foreign languages like
French and arabic.
Four fonts are uniform and display the same in all browsers.
They are Ariel, Courier, Times and Verdana. You can browse our uniform fonts and text page below and select the
fonts and text sizes you prefer for your web site. Our Economy and Basic package sites are built using either Ariel
(most popular because it is easiest to read), Times or Verdana. Deluxe package sites are built using any or all four
uniform fonts, plus 12 deluxe fonts. Customized package sites can be built using any font. You can also select
font size (font sizing for web site design is different than font sizing in word processors).
Please note the font type you prefer, the text size you prefer, whether you prefer plain or italic text, bold or
non-bold text, underlined text, colored text, or highlighted text. If you prefer colored or highlighted
